Our Private Driving Lessons are designed for students who want additional one-on-one instruction outside of a driver training course. Whether you are a new driver looking to build confidence, an experienced driver who wants to improve specific skills, or someone preparing for the Washington State Skills Exam, our professional instructors will tailor each lesson to your individual needs.
During your lesson, you can focus on areas such as parking, lane changes, highway driving, intersections, defensive driving techniques, and overall vehicle control. Lessons are conducted in a safe, supportive environment that allows students to learn at their own pace while receiving personalized feedback and coaching.
Private lessons are available for both teens and adults and can be scheduled at times that work with your schedule. Our goal is to help every student become a safe, confident, and responsible driver on Washington roads. Whether you need a single lesson or ongoing instruction, South Sound Driving School is here to help you reach your driving goals.
How Private Lessons Work
We teach private lessons for drivers from Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and across Thurston County. Lessons are also available in Spanish: clases de manejo en español.
Private Lesson Questions
How long is a private lesson?
Each lesson is 1 hour behind the wheel.
Where do lessons start?
Lessons start and end at our office at 4510 Intelco Loop SE, Ste A, in Lacey.
Whose car do we use?
Our training car, which has a brake on the instructor’s side.
Do I need a permit?
Yes. You need an instruction permit or a driver license to take a private lesson.
Are private lessons for adults too?
Yes. We work with teens who want more practice, adults driving for the first time, and experienced drivers who want a refresher.
Can a lesson help me get ready for the skills exam?
Yes. Many students use a lesson to practice before their skills exam. If you are testing with us, we also offer 30 minutes of practice plus the skills exam for $120. See License Exams.
Do you offer lessons in Spanish?
Yes. Private lessons can be taught in Spanish, and our owner, Taylor, speaks Spanish. Let us know when you sign up, or see clases de manejo en español.
