How to Enroll
Follow these simple steps to reserve your spot in one of our upcoming driver training classes:
- Complete the registration form below.
- Check your parent or guardian’s email for your next steps!
- Stop by our office to make the $50 deposit and choose your payment plan.
- Fill out the paperwork under “Driver Training” and “Document Submission”.
Once you’re enrolled, we’ll guide you through the instruction permit process and help you prepare for a successful start to your driver training experience.
Payment Plan Options
Option 1: Pay in Full
- $50 deposit
- $550 due on the first day of class
Option 2: Weekly Payments
- $50 deposit
- 5 weekly payments of $110
- First payment on first day of class
Option 3: Biweekly Payments
- $50 deposit
- 3 biweekly payments of $183.33
- First payment on first day of class
Option 4: Monthly Payments
- $50 deposit
- 2 monthly payments of $275
- First payment on first day of class
Instruction Permit Process
Obtaining your instruction permit is an important step toward earning your Washington State driver license. Students enrolled in a driver training course at South Sound Driving School may obtain their permit no sooner than 10 days before their class begins.
Enroll in a driver training class at South Sound Driving School.
Create a License eXpress account through SAW (Secure Access Washington). https://dol.wa.gov/pre-apply-online
Complete the DOL pre-application process.
Receive your Washington Driver License (WDL) number.
Provide your WDL number to South Sound Driving School.
Obtain your instruction permit no sooner than 10 days before the start of your class.
Alternative Permit Option:
Students who are at least 15½ years old may also obtain an instruction permit by successfully passing the Washington State Knowledge Exam.

How to Obtain the Permit
How to Obtain Your Instruction Permit
After South Sound Driving School submits your enrollment waiver (10 days before class) to the Washington State Department of Licensing, there are two ways to obtain your instruction permit:
Option 1: Visit a Driver Licensing Office
Once your waiver has been processed, you may visit a Washington State Driver Licensing Office to purchase and receive your instruction permit. Be sure to bring any required identification documents and payment for the permit fee.
Option 2: Order Your Permit Online
If you have a License eXpress account and meet the Department of Licensing requirements, you may be able to purchase your instruction permit online through your License eXpress account. After completing the purchase, you can print a temporary instruction permit and begin driving immediately with a qualified supervising driver. Your permanent permit will be mailed to the address on file with the Department of Licensing.

Students enrolled in a driver training course may obtain their instruction permit no sooner than 10 days before their class begins. Before a permit can be issued, students must:
